Acritas Wines is the vision of two frontier-born Greeks - true Akrites - crafting heroic wines from the steep terraced slopes of Samos. Working with old Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains vineyards, guided by regenerative organic farming and respect for biodiversity, Konstantinos Tellis and Stella Papadimitriou bring decades of experience from Santorini, the Cyclades, and international harvests to create wines that capture the rugged beauty, authenticity, and singular character of this remarkable island terroir.
The 620 Skalia is Muscat, but not as you know it. From a north-facing single vineyard perched at 500 metres on the schist slopes of Samos, this is a strikingly distinctive expression of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains. Its name is inspired by the 620 steps that connect the terraces of this dramatic vineyard site - steps climbed countless times as its steep slopes are cultivated entirely by hand.
As the very first bottling from Acritas Wines, and with only 1,400 bottles produced, this is a genuinely rare find. Farmed from 40- to 60-year-old bush vines, the fruit fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, allowing the vineyard to speak with clarity and precision. Six months on lees brings texture, creaminess and quiet depth, while the refreshing acidity keeps everything lifted and finely poised. The aromatics hint at stone fruit, but this is no overtly floral, easy-going Muscat - instead, it’s structured, concentrated, and intensely mineral, with a refined, almost saline complexity.
A wine that challenges expectations and redefines what Muscat can be.
